The loop, step by step

This post is an example of an experience. The words you’re reading live in an Obsidian note and the layout lives in src/experiences/loop.astro. Each ## heading in the note becomes one step, and each step’s title becomes a label on the ring. Scroll to move through it.

Sense

Every loop starts by looking at the world as it is, not as you expect it to be. A thermostat reads the room. A writer rereads the draft.

Compare

A reading means nothing alone. It has to be held against a goal, and the gap between the two is the only thing the loop cares about.

Decide

The gap suggests a change. A good loop makes small changes, because a large correction tends to overshoot and has to be corrected in turn.

Act

The change goes out into the world, where it meets everything else that’s happening. Its effect is never quite what was planned.

Learn

So the loop looks again. This is where it stops being a line and closes into a circle, which is the whole idea. See How this blog works for how this post is put together.
